Product testing in Chamonix.
- Day 1 -
Last April, just before launching production, we set out to test our latest technical backpack: the “ARAVIS" under “extreme” conditions. And what better place for that than Chamonix? Jane, my Canadian friend, was visiting Europe and had always dreamed of exploring the Vallée Blanche. A double stroke of luck: Liv Sansoz, a high-mountain guide, was available, as was my photographer friend Richard Bord. The stars seemed to be aligning…
Wanna come with us? Let’s go!
We pack our backpacks so we don’t forget anything: shovel, probe, crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, goggles, water bottle, jacket, snacks, sunscreen, sleeping bag liner, toiletries, a change of clothes… everything has to fit! Then we head to the cable car for the Aiguille du Midi at an altitude of 3,842 meters. Once at the top, the view is breathtaking (literally! Because oxygen starts to run low).
We gear up to descend the ridge that leads to the start of the Vallée Blanche. Goal: to reach the Géant Glacier, below the Mont Blanc, to take photos among the seracs.
Once the photoshoot is over, we head back down to the Requin refuge to rest and spend the night. It’s a magical place, right in the heart of the Vallée Blanche. When night falls and all the tourists have left, you can hear the seracs cracking and the shooting stars streaking across the sky...
The next day, we got up early to head to the base of the Puiseux Breach couloir. Click here to read the rest of the story.
